We are very sorry to announce that we have to postpone the 3rd eLearning Conference of the Charter Saar-Lor-Lux-Rheinland-Pfalz-Wallonie.
Unfortunatly, (1) so far we really have too few participants and (2) we have just been informed that there will be maintenance work on the campus on thursday and friday so that we are very likely to have problems with the electric power grid.
We are very sorry for those of you who have already confirmed their presence on 11th September 2009 and hope that this change of plans will not cause too much inconvenience.
We plan to postpone the conference to end of October 2009, but we need to check with our administration in terms of availability of meeting rooms. We should have more news tomorrow (09/09/2009).
We will organize some kind of poll or vote to see which day will allow most people to participate… We really want to welcome as many of you as possible.
3rd Charter eLearning Conference
eLearning in the 21st century: Challenges for Higher Education
11th September 2009, University of Luxembourg, FLSHASE, Campus Walferdange
Generally speaking, the charter conference should enable the involved universities and institutions to present their e-learning activities to identify and gear synergy capabilities among each other for future transboundary collaboration.
The initial conference (link) of the e-learning network of the SarLorLux (and Wallonia and Rhineland-Palatinate) charter took place on Tuesday, 22nd of May 2007 at the University Henri Poincaré in Nancy. The constituting meeting was mainly in the focus of getting to know the individual e-learning strategies (including the structural integration and portfolios of the support units) of the charter universities.
The second conference (link) explored how realised e-learning solutions are concretely used in daily practice to supplement, facilitate and extend traditional lecture methods. Live examples of selected e-learning tools and solutions developed and approved at the individual charter universities were presented and demonstrated.
The third conference will further explore concrete educational technology solutions as well as their impact on general learning and teaching strategies within higher education institutions of the charter network. Recent developments in the field of Information and Communication Technologies have indeed challenged and changed the way we think about and conceive learning and teaching in higher education. While for many years digital technologies were more or less used as substitutions of traditional educational media, the recent explosion of social media and mobile ICT has more fundamentally changed our relations to knowledge and to technologies. Higher education will have to move beyond simple transmission of existing knowledge in order to move towards the collaborative construction of new knowledge and its usage in meaningful settings. Universities of the 21st century will have to help their students to become empowered citizens and efficient and adaptable professionals in an ever evolving knowledge and information society.
